Basic Concepts and Treatment Methods of Impotence in Oriental Medicine


Abstract
To explain Impotence, Oriental Medicine uses the terms like YINWU, YANGWU, YINGIBULYONG, YINBULGI, YANGSABULGUH, etc, not presenting the definition or the standard but explaining briefly the condition of Impotence with the ideogram, chinese
character,
emphasizing reasoning treatment and prescribing based on pattern identification.
And Oriental Medicine understands the Impotence not as a disease but as a kind of sign accompanied with the functional impairment of organs like HUHRO, HUHSON, SINHUH.
The etiology (pathological mechanism) of YINWU (Impotence) could be devided into two; the first is Kidney emptiness noted in NEIJING as functional impairment of organ and Heart emptiness Spleen emptiness and Liver emptiness are also considered as
the
reason of Impotence.
; the second is the functional impairment of Liver meridian resulting from dampness and heat in the channel which surrounds genitalia among 12 meridians.
Pathological patterns of Impotence (YINWU) could be devided into Gate fire decreasing, Heart and Spleen impairment, Anxiety impairing Kidney and Damp-Heat downward. Acupuncture treatment and herbal prescription are applied in the treatment of
Impotence.
Saam-Ohang (five elements) acupuncture treatment, which is frequently used in Andrology department in Kyung-Hee hospital of oriental medicine, has significant effect on improving sexuality, increasing the frequency of morning erection and
improving
the
erceting rigidity and duration. And active appliance of western medical apparatus and machine is required to prove these effect objectively.
